Laura Barrett's first concert was not at any club or stadium, but an art gallery. In 1995, the offbeat Canadian rock act The Rheostatics were commissioned by the National Gallery of Canada to record an album accompanying a retrospective of paintings by the Group of 7. The Toronto CD release show, March 28, 1996 at the Art Gallery of Ontario, was where Barrett, a 14 year-old classically trained pianist, first encountered Rheo's guitarist Martin Tielli. His unique experiments filled her with wonder - and new hope for her own eclectic musical ambitions. She has since found success experimenting with sounds, subjects and environments in her own work, and as a member of bands like The Hidden Cameras, she's remained a fervent Rheos fan. Now, Laura meets up with her long-time musical hero Tielli at the renovated AGO. Featuring exclusive live performance of Laura wandering Walker Court and a breathtaking acoustic duet with Martin of the Rheostatics.
